Some companies are born from frustration, and TrailRax Inc. is one of them. Adam Engelke, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Utah-based automotive manufacturer, was an off-road enthusiast tired of a roof rack market that forced bad tradeoffs. Premium systems were overpriced and overbuilt, budget options lacked durability and proper engineering, and almost nothing combined strength, function and modularity for both adventure and daily use.

In 2017 he began designing custom bracketry for the Jeep Wrangler, work that evolved into a patented system maximizing unused vehicle space to improve fuel-carrying capacity, storage and weight distribution. Demand from the local Jeep community quickly validated the idea, and what started as one-off fabrication became a real business. He formalized the company, secured patent protection and partnered with Utah manufacturers to scale production, then made the defining choice to pause his university business studies and commit fully during the outdoor recreation surge of 2020, a pivotal moment that set the company on its current path.

Engelke later guided development of the company’s flagship modular roof rack platform, engineered for the Ford Bronco and built to solve the fitment limitations, wind noise and structural compromises that plagued other options. That product became roughly half of company sales and a cornerstone of growth as the business expanded from an enthusiast brand into a scalable, multi-channel manufacturing company over three years.

His rare quality is the ability to evolve alongside the company he founded. As the business scaled into a multimillion-dollar operation he faced operational strain, inventory imbalance, payroll outpacing revenue and mounting supplier pressure. Rather than externalize blame or chase unsustainable expansion, he made the harder choice and committed to an operational reset, significantly reducing inventory, tightening purchasing controls, strengthening financial oversight and restructuring staffing around merit and genuine accountability.

He institutionalized a formal operating system to create measurable goals and clear leadership roles, improving margins while building predictable cash flow. His Titan 100 honor reflects that maturity, a recognition that disciplined stewardship matters as much as the original spark of invention. The mission he articulates is to lead the automotive accessory industry through innovation and purposeful design while supporting American jobs and elevating industry standards.

The five-year vision is expansive and deliberate. Engelke intends for TrailRax to serve consumer, commercial, fleet and strategic markets, anchored by vehicle-specific engineering and a broadening accessory ecosystem that increases customer lifetime value. The aim is to become the trusted modular rack platform for specific vehicles, known not only for quality but for durability that outlasts trends. His guiding principle captures the whole enterprise: Build with discipline, lead with accountability and create products and systems that endure.
