Emily Shoff, Owner and Chief Executive Officer of The Phoenix Recovery Center, leads a company whose very name speaks to rising from the ashes, and few understand that meaning as intimately as she does. The story begins long before the company itself. In 2008, the market crashed and the small construction business she ran with her husband Jake went under. They lost their home, their business and their dignity, living off little while kind neighbors secretly delivered groceries.
Searching for what to do next with a young, growing family, they were asked to help run a small sober living home in Orem. Hesitant at first, they felt led toward the work, and having lost dear friends to addiction, they were eager to offer compassion. Jake jumped in to build it, pursued residential licensing to grow more efficiently and transformed a distressed bed and breakfast in Midway into a fully functional recovery center.
Since 2013 The Phoenix Recovery Center has helped thousands reclaim their lives, strengthen their families and rediscover hope. The mission is to empower individuals and families suffering from addiction and mental health disorders to celebrate life through lasting solutions, built on the belief that healing happens when compassion meets accountability and clinical excellence meets genuine human connection.
Then came the test that would define Shoff’s leadership. Jake, who had led the company for years, passed away, and she summoned every ounce of courage and strength to rise to the challenge of running their most beloved company. She has spoken plainly about what that has cost her, and about the depth she has had to reach to keep going for her family and her team.
Named among the Titan 100, Shoff is honored as a leader whose strength is measured not merely by what she does but by everything she has overcome to stand where she stands. She does not claim to be the most polished executive, an honesty that is itself a form of leadership, but she is absolutely certain she will not let the company fail, and she is determined to push it to new levels.
That determination centers on her 54-member team. A true leader wants to better everyone around them, she believes, sharing in the growth and rewarding talent and hard work. One of the most satisfying parts of owning a company, she says, is watching employees’ lives improve, and she is committed to providing opportunities that enhance theirs.
The culture she has built reflects that devotion. Her Clinical Director has marked eight years with the company, her President 12 years, her Program Director 11 years, and her team stays even amid the high demands of the work. Shoff keeps pay, benefits and retirement offerings competitive because she recognizes the team as the backbone of everything.
With financial independence hard-won through Jake’s relentless work to become debt free, The Phoenix Recovery Center is positioned to grow and reach even more people. Rise above, the company’s motto, guides Shoff still, and she carries it forward one life at a time.

Our company’s Motto is, “RISE ABOVE”. This means so many things to so many of us. Rise above addiction. Rise adversity. Rise above contention. Rise above pride. Rise above failure. Rise above loss.
For me, I’ve had to dig down to the depths of my soul, to Rise Above the complete heartbreak and life shattering loss of my husband. He led our company for years, and I’ve had to grab every ounce of courage and strength that I could muster, and Rise to the challenge of running our most beloved company. SO FOR ME:
RISE ABOVE
Rise above adversity.
Rise above loss.
Rise above what would break you.
In the face of heartbreak, choose courage.
In the face of hardship, choose strength.
With eternal purpose,
Together,
We Rise Above.
