More than three decades in the landscape industry have given Jerry DeJournett a rare vantage point, and the Chief Operating Officer of Strata Landscaping LLC has used it to build something ambitious in the Western United States. A licensed Landscape Architect and Landscape Contractor who holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho, he began his career in Portland in 1993 and has since served at the executive level for five national companies, holding President or suite-level roles at three of them.
His operational reach reads like a tour of the region’s most recognizable properties. Across his career he has sold or maintained landscapes for major corporate campuses in Washington, hospitality resorts in California and hundreds of church properties throughout the territory. That field-tested credibility informs the company he co-founded, a private equity-backed roll-up built in partnership with Align Capital out of Dallas, which began with the acquisition of Boulder Landscaping in Utah and Verdant Landscaping in Southern California.
Strata Landscaping’s mission is to acquire and elevate top local teams across the West, delivering exceptional service and lasting value while building a company that employees, customers and investors are proud to stand behind. DeJournett believes the finest landscapes come from teams who take pride in their work and commit to improving every day. That belief drives a roll-up now spanning the Salt Lake City metropolitan area and a Southern California footprint reaching from Santa Barbara to the Mexico border.
Safety anchors everything. DeJournett prioritizes safety above profit, growth or any competing measure. Every bonus structure, commission plan and field meeting carries a safety training or safety component, and he insists that will never change. The well-being of his people and customers remains the single nonnegotiable at the center of the operation.
His proudest achievement is not a balance sheet but a lineage of leaders. Over his career he has trained and placed more than 36 Branch, Regional and Executive Managers, and he still keeps in touch with the vast majority of them, most of whom have continued climbing within their industries. His Titan 100 honor recognizes a leader whose influence multiplies through the people he develops.
The horizon is electric, in the most literal sense. DeJournett co-founded a robotics venture pursuing an AI-driven, whisper-quiet mowing solution designed to dramatically reduce mowing labor while turning field crews into the next generation of robotics specialists. His combined goal blends emissions reduction with workforce transformation, training teams to become field robotics experts. Guided by the symbolism of the Ginkgo tree he favors, he warns that organizations which stop evolving invite extinction, and he intends for Strata Landscaping to keep evolving toward a far larger future.
