Kevin Thorn never planned to enter pest management. Finishing his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, he intended to attend medical school and become a Pediatrician, exploring small businesses for sale mostly as a way to fund his education and avoid debt. In September 2007 he purchased a modest pest control operation with two employees and a mostly residential client base. The President of Thorn Pest Solutions had no prior experience in the field, so he immersed himself completely, shadowing his office team member, working alongside his field professional and studying technical materials late into the night.

A defining moment arrived that first winter with Thorn Pest Solutions’ first bed bug call. When Thorn asked how they handled it, the answer was that no client had ever asked before. There were no reference materials, no protocols and no training. Rather than accept the status quo, he saw opportunity. He began building a technical library, meeting with experts, attending conferences and instituting weekly training for the entire team. His goal was unmistakable: This would not simply provide pest control but would become a company of true experts. Recognizing the emerging bed bug epidemic, he financed the purchase of a detection dog named Radar and personally handled inspections for nine years.

That instinct to elevate rather than merely serve is what distinguishes him. In a field often viewed as transactional and reactive, Thorn has worked to reposition pest management as a professional, data-driven and essential service protecting public health, food safety and business continuity. He views his professionals as frontline protectors of homes, businesses and supply chains, and he competes not on price but on professionalism, accountability, training and measurable outcomes. His influence reaches peers who look to him for guidance on innovation and long-term growth.

The record of accomplishment is substantial. Thorn authored a practical guide to commercial pest prevention that has grown into a widely used training tool across the industry. He received the 2018 young entrepreneur award from the National Pest Management Association and was named to a regional 40 under 40 list. As a Founding Member and Past President of the Utah Pest Management Association, he personally helped fund and launch the state’s first organization dedicated solely to the profession, creating a unified voice for education and advocacy. He speaks frequently at premier national events on rodent management, emerging technologies and bed bugs.

Honored among the Titan 100, Thorn is building toward a clear future. By 2031 he envisions a predominantly commercial firm recognized as Utah’s standard for professionalism, knowledge and care, operating six thriving branches with a team that embodies the company mantra. His vision is not growth for its own sake but disciplined, values-driven expansion anchored in long-term client trust, servant leadership and mastery of craft. What ultimately makes him a Titan is his commitment to building something bigger than one company, raising the ceiling for an entire profession.
