Western States Lodging and Management traces its origins to a moment of opportunity, the announcement that Salt Lake City would host the 2002 Olympics. Five men from different backgrounds founded the company to support the families at the center of their lives, and Paul Fairholm, its Chief Executive Officer and Partner, has spent the years since turning that founding spirit into a regional hospitality, senior living and property management enterprise recognized for the clarity of its purpose.

What distinguishes the company most is a culture that genuinely governs daily decisions. Fairholm, with his partners and executive team, built an organization that lives its mission, and he is largely responsible for translating that mission into practice. The promise to serve customers like family is one he defines as doing the very best you can for the people you love the most, applied to three groups he keeps in constant focus: associates, customers and business partners.

More than 20 years ago he developed the personal touch culture that still animates the operation, a framework rooted in understanding what matters most to each of those groups and acting on it. That long-standing emphasis on relationships and shared meaning reflects his conviction that leadership is the art of building trust and inspiring commitment to both collective success and a better life for every individual involved.

His credentials reinforce that philosophy with substance. Fairholm holds an MBA in healthcare administration and a degree in operations and systems analysis, carries nursing home administrator licensure in multiple states and has served extensively in public and civic roles, including gubernatorial appointments to a state health facilities committee across more than a decade and a commission on aging. He has also led state assisted living and Alzheimer’s association chapters, lending his expertise well beyond his own firm.

Western States Lodging and Management’s recent performance has outpaced its own ambitious targets. Three years ago the team set a disciplined growth strategy across revenue, properties and margins, and execution has exceeded key benchmarks, with same-store portfolio revenue growth in the past year nearly tripling the original goal. The firm delivered a new hotel in Idaho, added a senior living community in Colorado and broke ground on additional developments while pursuing new management contracts.

Fairholm’s five-year plan, established in 2024, targets steady revenue expansion drawn from same-store performance, third-party management contracts, acquisitions and ground-up development, all while maintaining solid margins. Being named a Titan 100 Honoree affirms a leader who has proven that a company anchored in mission, culture and values can grow without losing the family ethos that defines it. Western States Lodging and Management develops and operates hotels, senior living communities, multifamily housing and conference centers, and its guiding statement remains beautifully simple: serve you like family.
